Workshop Background

This workshop, entitled "NanoMedicine-NanoHealth: Establishing an Innovative Research Agenda for Canada" will be held in Montreal, in the Delta Hotel, on 13 and 14 February 2003. Invited participants include a wide range of experts with backgrounds in medical research, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and ethics from academia, industry and government - both Canadian and international. Because of its vast potential, multi-disciplinary involvement is essential in planning a meaningful research strategy in NanoMedicine-NanoHealth.

The Workshop format will include 3 or 4 state-of-the-art presentations on the status, opportunities and relative position of Nanomedicine in Canada and worldwide. These will be followed by focussed discussions in small work groups targeting key questions and issues. A great deal of discussion will be related to research objectives, training programs, access to proper infrastructure, and links with industry, all of which are critical if Canada is to be a significant player in this exciting and highly competitive area.

The desired outcome of the workshop is a clear and informed direction which will permit public and private sector funding bodies to collectively move forward with an innovative research agenda of strategic interest to all interested partners. Any final discussion documents relating to the workshop will be made available at this website.
